Deserts can be very hot during the day, and the Sonoran Desert is no exception. So one of the best times to see desert life - particuarly during the summer - is after dark.
And one of the best places to see it is on the desert roads, each of which is a kind of transect across the desert. All kinds of things come out at night to sit on warm roads, or cross them on their foraging expeditions.
